Firefighting Aircraft – Live Tracker

In the United States, transponder code 1255 is assigned to firefighting aircraft operating over fire traffic areas - large air tankers, single-engine air tankers (SEATs), lead planes, air attack platforms, smokejumper aircraft, and helicopters. This page lists every aircraft the airplanes.live network currently hears squawking 1255, updating every 30 seconds.

Activity is strongly seasonal and regional: expect the busiest tables during North American fire season, with clusters of tankers and spotters working the same fire. An empty table simply means no crews are working a fire under the 1255 code right now.

The 1255 code is a US convention coordinated through interagency fire dispatch; firefighting aircraft elsewhere may fly under normal discrete codes and will not appear here. Aircraft to watch for include the DC-10 Air Tanker, C-130 MAFFS units, CL-415 scoopers, and heavy-lift helicopters like the CH-47 and S-64.
